3D Archery

3D archery is a sport that offers something for all archers. Whether you want to compete or are just honing in on your skills for bow season, 3D archery offers something for you.

At the Old Hickory Lake Bowmen Club, we use ASA scoring and offer all ASA classes. New to 3D? Here is a quick breakdown to help you figure out which class you belong in. The main objective her is to have fun and learn. If you are afraid of the competition aspect of this game there is always a fun class for you to shoot in. However, don't be afraid to compete. Regardless of your skill level, 3D archery offers a class for everyone. Everyone starts somewhere.


If you are looking at shooting one of our ASA State Qualifiers, here is a tip that will save both you us some time. This can also save you a TON of time if you will be competing in four or more of the ASA State Shooter of the Year Qualifiers. Download the ASA Qualifier Entry Form <<, and fill it out before you head to the range for the shoot. This will help get you out shooting faster. If you plan on shooting for Shooter of the Year, you can fill this form out once and make several copies of it to save yourself a lot of pencil time.


Open A, Open B, Open C, Known 50, Known 45, Known 40, Senior Men's Open, Senior Known, Semi Pro, Super Senior Open, and Senior Master Open all have similar rules. You can any sight and any length stabilizer or backbar. The differences are in speed limit, distance and format:


Open A, Known 50, and Semi Pro are 50 yard max classes with a 290FPS speed limit. Semi Pro and Open A are both Unknown Yardage. Known 50 is an ALL Known yardage class.


Open B, Known 45, Senior Men's Open, and Senior Known are 45 Yard max classes with a 280FPS speed limit. Senior Open is all Unknown. Open B is Half Known Yardage and and Half Unknown Yardage. Senior Known and Known 45 are ALL Known Yardage Classes.


Super Senior and Senior Master Open are 40 Yard max and 280FPS speed limit. Both classes are all Unknown Yardage.


Open C and Known 40 are 40 Yard max class with a 280FPS speed limit. Open C is Half Known Yardage and Half Unknown Yardage. Known 40 is ALL Known Yardage.


Women's Open A, Women's Open B, Women's Known 45, Women's Known 40, and Senior Women's Open all have similar rules. You can any sight and any length stabilizer or backbar. The differences are in speed limit distance and format:


Women's Open A and Women's Known 45 are 45 Yard max with a 280FPS speed limit. Women's Open A is all unknown yardage. Women's Known 45 is ALL Known Yardage.


Women's Open B, Women's Known 40, and Senior Women's Open are 40 yard max with a 280FPS speed limit.

Women's Open B and Senior Women's Open are half Known Yardage and half Unknown Yardage.

Women's Known 40 is ALL Known Yardage.


Hunter, Senior Hunter, Bow Novice, and Women's Hunter Classes are for Fixed Pin sights. Moveable sights, such as HHA sights, are permitted but must be locked down and shall not be moved throughout the competition. Magnification is permitted in Hunter and Senior Hunter only. Stabilizers are limited to 12" from the from of the front bow including any quick disconnects. Backbars should not not extend more than 6" from the back of the bow measured at a point under the grip.Both Hunter and Senior Hunter classes are 40 yard max and 280FPS speed limit. Both classes are half Known and half unknown yardage.

Bow Novice and Women's Hunter are 30 yard max and ALL Known Yardage. Bow Novice has a 280FPS speed limit while Women's Hunter has a 260FPS speed limit.


Traditional class is for Longbows or recurves. No sights, sight marks on the riser, or releases can be used. One stabilizer 12" in length or shorter may be used.  Traditional class is a 25 yard max all Unknown Yardage.


High School, Middle School, Elementary School, and Jr. Eagle Open classes follow the same rules as all other Open classes with the exception of speed limit, distance, and format.

High School, Middle School, and Elementary School Pins classes follow the same rules as all other Pin classes with the exception of speed limit, distance, and format.


High School Open Boys (Grade 9-12)        40 yard max   280FPS   Half Known/Half Unknown
